Today we found ourselves hiking the always challenging and equally rewarding Wasootch ridge trail. Heading out at 9am the weather was perfect for hiking, though we packed our rain gear expecting it to change over the course of the day.
We arrived at the trailhead around 9:30am and set out on what turned out to be a five and half hour hike. Spirits were high, songs were sung, and laughs were heard all across the area. The students proved that they were ready for this trip, both in terms of their fitness level and positive outlook. By the time the rain started (just as we sat down to eat lunch), the group was having so much fun that we weren't even bothered by our now wet sandwiches and behinds. Shortly after eating we turned around and headed back to the trailhead, where the bus was awaiting our return. Kids shared stories, laughed as always, and learned a lot about hiking in the rain in the mountains.
Upon arriving at the bus we decided to go for a short hike to Troll Falls, as the sun was once again shining bright and we didn't want to pass up the opportunity to explore the region even more. The students were extremely excited as this is a beautiful, mostly flat hike, through an aspen grove, that leads to a beautiful waterfall. We had a great time as a group and it was a nice addition to an already spectacular day. Here's looking forward to tomorrow's hike and trip to the local pool!
