HIKE #3: HEART MOUNTAIN
Heart Mountain is a 15 km loop. Today was the toughest hike of the trip. Hot dogs later in the day never tasted so good!
I'm really glad we did this hike today. I feel like I really accomplished something. I wouldn't have tried this on my own.

Many of the images below have great camera angles and give the illusion that students are "on the edge". they were not!

The hike outlasted the gps tracker's battery therefore we are missing the last hour or so of the hike. The hike is in fact a loop.

Hike #4: Ha LING Peak
I already ate all the M&Ms in my trail mix. This is the worst day ever. I just peed over the mountain. Check that off my bucket list! |

Hike #5: Mount Lady Macdonald
Well... today's hike was cut a little short by inclement weather. We hiked up about an hour before our guides made the decision to turn back as it was raining and making the ground a little bit too slippery. Luckily, the Cougar Creek Trail was waiting for us at the bottom and we were able to hike up the creek bed to see some beautiful scenery and observe the changes and destruction that occurred in the flood of 2013. It was a bittersweet day as we had great fun, but it was Ms. Rhoda's final hike as a Rocky Mountain trip leader. After 19 years of taking prairie kids to the mountains and teaching them about mountain life, she is hanging up her hiking boots and icing her knees. She will be sorely missed!
Rocky 2015 was one of the most memorable experiences that we’ve had at Kelvin. We conquered five mountains in five days; Wasootch Ridge, Yamnuska, Heart Mountain, Ha Ling and Lady MacDonald. We trekked up steep rocks, ran down mountainsides and cooled off in glacial creeks. These moments helped us create unexpected friendships and allowed old ones to grow stronger. The views were indescribable and the feelings of accomplishment were extremely gratifying. Some words of wisdom from the 2015 rocky crew; things to expect for future hikers going on a 9 and ½ hour hike: you will cry, you will burn, friendships will be tested and you will contemplate jumping off the cliff. In the end, we didn’t choose the mountain life the mountain life chose us. #Edward Whymper.
